The Run
In Test Cell was developed for a major hand tool manufacturer to
test and run in the armature brushes in the motor of newly manufactured
hand tools to ascertain:
- That the motor ran correctly
- That the brushes were run in for the proper preset time
- The current flow to the motor met the manufacturer's specifications
This machine is a fully enclosed, sound dampened, eight station rotating
table with applicable fixturing to handle the output of a production
line. Incorporated in the rotating table is an internal air and
brush dust removal system. All control is accomplished with the
use of an Allen Bradley SLC500 processor. The table is indexed by a
Camco Indexing Unit.
The
machine can be set to run automatically or operator indexed
through the use of Banner OPTO Touch Buttons. To operate
the machine the operator loads a hand tool into the fixture and presses
the OPTO Touch Buttons. At the start of rotation the hand
tool starts to run and will run in for pre-programmed time period.
At the end of this time period the hand tool will cycle off
and simply continue around to station one where the operator is.
Indicator lights at the operator's station indicate the status of
the tested hand tool. The hand tool can now be removed
and processed accordingly. The operator can now load a new tool
in the fixture and the process continues. At each station there
are suction tubes to evacuate heat and brush dust built up as a result
of running hand tools.
A variety
of tests can be incorporated into the Run In cell depending on
customer's requirements and type of hand tool. Cycle
time is a function of time required to Run In a hand tool.
Typically run times are between 60 and 75 seconds to lower current
draw to normal specification and wear in
brushes. |
